◆ OUR SERVICES / BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING

Blood pressure monitoring that goes beyond the reading.

Blood pressure isn’t just a number — it’s a window into your cardiovascular system, stress response, and metabolic health. We go beyond occasional office readings to understand your true blood pressure patterns and the root causes driving elevation. Our goal isn’t just lowering numbers — it’s optimizing the systems that control them.

Blood pressure monitoring that goes beyond the reading

You’ve been told your blood pressure is “a little high.” Maybe you’ve been prescribed a medication — or two, or three — and yet your numbers still aren’t where they should be. Or perhaps your readings bounce around unpredictably: normal at home, elevated at the doctor’s office, or spiking at seemingly random times.

Here’s what conventional medicine often misses: a single blood pressure reading tells you almost nothing. It’s a snapshot of one moment — influenced by whether you rushed to your appointment, had coffee that morning, or felt anxious on the exam table. We take blood pressure seriously, not by reflexively adding medications, but by understanding why your pressure is elevated and what your body is trying to tell you.

A single office reading is just one moment — shaped by coffee, stress, and the rush to your appointment. True understanding requires seeing your blood pressure across the whole day. Ambulatory BP monitoring

Why standard blood pressure care falls short

The typical approach goes something like this: your doctor takes a reading, sees it’s elevated, and prescribes a medication. If that doesn’t work, they add another. And another. Before long, you’re on multiple drugs — each with its own side effects — while nobody has stopped to ask the fundamental question: what’s actually driving this?

Blood pressure doesn’t rise in a vacuum. It’s a downstream signal of deeper imbalances, and until those are addressed, you’re essentially putting a finger in the dam while ignoring the flood behind it. Until we identify which factors are driving your blood pressure, treatment remains a guessing game.

The frustration of chasing numbers

If you’ve been dealing with blood pressure issues, you may recognize some of these experiences:

  • Taking multiple medications yet still not reaching your target
  • Dealing with side effects like fatigue, dizziness, or frequent urination
  • Feeling anxious every time you get your blood pressure checked
  • Wondering if you’ll be on these medications for the rest of your life
  • Receiving conflicting readings at home versus in the office
  • Being told to “reduce stress” without any real guidance on how

You deserve more than a prescription and a pat on the back. You deserve a partner who will investigate what’s really going on — and help you address it at the source.

THE ROOT CAUSES OF ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE

Pressure is a downstream signal.

Blood pressure doesn’t rise in a vacuum — it reflects deeper imbalances. We identify which of these factors, or combination of factors, is driving your numbers, so treatment is precise rather than a guessing game.

01

Insulin Resistance & Metabolic Dysfunction

When your body struggles to regulate blood sugar, it triggers hormonal cascades that constrict blood vessels and retain sodium — one of the most common and overlooked drivers of elevated pressure.

02

Chronic Stress & Cortisol Dysregulation

A nervous system stuck in “fight or flight” keeps blood pressure perpetually elevated. Being told to “reduce stress” without real guidance doesn’t address the underlying autonomic imbalance.

03

Sleep Apnea & Poor Sleep Quality

Interrupted breathing at night creates dangerous blood pressure spikes and prevents the normal nocturnal dip — a frequently missed cause of resistant and morning hypertension.

04

Inflammation & Vascular Stiffness

Arteries that have lost their flexibility can’t accommodate blood flow properly, raising systolic pressure. Vascular inflammation is both a cause and a consequence of elevated pressure.

05

Hormonal Imbalances

Thyroid dysfunction, adrenal issues, and changes during menopause directly impact blood pressure regulation — and are rarely evaluated in standard care.

06

Nutrient Deficiencies

Inadequate magnesium, potassium, and other minerals impair the body’s ability to maintain healthy pressure. These deficiencies are common and easily corrected once identified.

Also a key contributor

  • Excess body fat — particularly visceral fat: metabolically active tissue that releases inflammatory signals and disrupts metabolic balance. Research shows that for every ~2.2 lb of fat lost, systolic blood pressure drops by approximately 1 mmHg.

A personalized treatment plan

Based on your unique profile, we create a comprehensive plan that works with your body instead of just overriding it. It may include:

  • Targeted nutrition — anti-inflammatory eating patterns like DASH or Mediterranean, customized to your metabolic needs, not generic advice to “eat less salt.”
  • Strategic supplementation — magnesium, CoQ10, omega-3s, beetroot extract, and other evidence-based nutrients that support healthy blood pressure.
  • Metabolic optimization — addressing insulin resistance through our Metabolic Flexibility Program when indicated.
  • Stress & nervous-system support — practical techniques for calming the fight-or-flight response: breathwork, HRV training, and lifestyle modifications that actually work.
  • Sleep optimization — addressing sleep apnea and improving sleep quality to restore the natural nocturnal blood pressure dip.
  • Weight & body composition — strategic fat loss that preserves muscle (every ~2.2 lb of fat lost drops systolic pressure by about 1 mmHg).
  • Medication optimization — when medications are necessary, we select the right agents for your situation, minimizing side effects and, when possible, reducing medication burden over time.
OUR PRECISION APPROACH

We don’t just measure blood pressure — we decode it.

Our comprehensive approach combines accurate, real-world pressure data with a deep investigation into what’s driving elevation — grounded in the latest cardiovascular research and delivered as evidence-based, physician-led care.

ADVANCED BLOOD PRESSURE ASSESSMENT

The full picture, not a single snapshot.

  • Home BP monitoring protocol — we teach accurate technique with validated equipment, tracking pressure in your natural environment.
  • Central aortic pressure assessment — the pressure in your arm isn’t what your heart and brain experience; we measure the true load on your cardiovascular system.
  • 24-hour patterns — identifying white-coat, masked, and morning-surge hypertension that single readings miss.
ROOT-CAUSE INVESTIGATION

Then we dig deeper.

  • Metabolic testing — fasting insulin, glucose, HbA1c, and insulin-resistance markers (Lumen device and CGM).
  • Inflammatory markers — hsCRP, homocysteine, and indicators of vascular inflammation.
  • Hormonal assessment — thyroid, cortisol patterns, aldosterone, and reproductive hormones.
  • Sleep evaluation — screening for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.
  • Nutrient status — magnesium, potassium, vitamin D, and other critical minerals.
  • Vascular & autonomic health — arterial stiffness, endothelial function, and heart rate variability.

Evidence-based, physician-led care.

Our approach to blood pressure management is grounded in the latest cardiovascular research and clinical guidelines, integrating the best of conventional cardiology with functional-medicine insights. We’re thorough — we don’t make treatment decisions based on a single office reading; personalized — your treatment is based on your unique physiology, not a one-size-fits-all protocol; collaborative — we work with your primary care physician and other specialists; and balanced — medications are used when truly needed, with the goal of addressing root causes whenever possible.

The goal
Not just better numbers — a healthier, more resilient cardiovascular system. Many patients are able to reduce or eliminate medications as root causes are addressed, always carefully and gradually under medical supervision.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Blood pressure, answered.

01 Can I get off my blood pressure medications? +
Many patients are able to reduce or eliminate blood pressure medications as we address root causes — but this is always done carefully and gradually under medical supervision. Our goal is optimal blood pressure with the least medication burden necessary. For some patients, medications remain an important part of their plan.
02 What’s “white coat hypertension” and do I have it? +
White coat hypertension means your blood pressure is elevated in medical settings but normal at home. It’s more common than most people realize. While once considered harmless, research now suggests it may indicate increased cardiovascular risk. 24-hour ambulatory or home blood pressure monitoring is the best way to determine if this applies to you.
03 My blood pressure is fine during the day but high in the morning. Why? +
Morning blood pressure surges are common and can be dangerous — they’re associated with increased risk of heart attack and stroke in the early morning hours. This pattern often relates to sleep quality, sleep apnea, cortisol rhythms, or medication timing. Understanding your 24-hour blood pressure pattern helps us address this specifically.
04 How quickly can I expect to see results? +
Some interventions — like targeted supplementation or addressing sleep apnea — can improve blood pressure within weeks. Deeper metabolic changes typically take at least 6 months to fully manifest, and usually require a year. We monitor your progress closely and adjust the plan as your body responds.
05 Is high blood pressure really that serious if I feel fine? +
Hypertension is called “the silent killer” for good reason — it damages your arteries, heart, brain, and kidneys for years before symptoms appear. By the time you feel something is wrong, significant damage has often occurred. Treating blood pressure proactively is one of the most important things you can do for your long-term health.
