Women appear to benefit to the same level in half men’s time. For both genders, a 19% reduction in all-cause mortality with vigorous physical activity (VPA) was associated with women getting this benefit at 57 min/week of VPA vs. men at 110 min. Men reached a plateau at 110 min but women achieved 24% reduction at 120 min/week.
For women, 50 min/wk of moderate physical activity (MPA) was associated with 20% all-cause mortality reduction (a similar benefit for men was at 90 min/week).
Women derived the same mortality reduction benefit (14% lower HR) with just ONE (1) weekly muscle strengthening session vs. THREE (3) for men. If women did 3 sessions per week, there was a 2x greater reduction in all-cause mortality.
Regular aerobic exercise led to 36% RRR in women vs. 14% in men for CV mortality.
Regular muscle strengthening exercise led to 30% RRR in women vs. 11% in men for CV mortality.
